Today we use the excuse of the Lunar New Year to head down to Chinatown to eat some noodles (for longevity) when we run into Iridesco on their way to the same intent, only they have their own traditions taking them towards Joe's Shanghai. Happily diverted, we join them in a celebratory New Year Eve meal of scallion pancakes, soup dumplings, braised fish and subgum fried rice cakes. Everyone has their superstitions but they're all related to starting fresh in the new year, avoiding bad luck and setting the tone for a prosperous and healthy new year.
