L.A. Burdick, local chocolatiers, recently opened a shop in the Flatiron District with two counters - one serving their famous chocolate mice, the other baked goods and gift packages. We had the Burdick cake, a confection of "layers of almond wafers and rum ganache, topped with white chocolate and pistachio". While certainly well-balanced and pleasantly textured, the overall cake was just this side of too milk sweet for our bittersweet preferences.
