Man are we going to miss our cheap Chinatown lunches, not just for the fast cheapness, but for the variety of eating. We tried the Gramercy location of Thai resto, Rhong-Tiam, today, a tiny little space dishing up an endless array of take-out orders. I love the advertising of the SUPER EXPRESS MEAL, and as promised the slow cooked beef came out pretty quickly, unlike Hong's pad thai, and even though it was fine, nice even, at $9.80 it was Chinatown quality but not Chinatown pricing.

Rhong Tiam is delicious but notoriously slow - always either call ahead or be prepared to wait up to half an hour for your food!
Give the Drunk Man noodles a shot next time. I really enjoyed them, but yes, service tends to be slow here. http://www.foodspotting.com/reviews/2753470
Give Jaiya or Little Basil a shot for Thai next time. Both of those have been excellent and have great lunch specials.
