In brief: The few things we have tried have all been good, but the dry sauteed string beans and ma po tofu are what we go back for time and time again.
Finally! We had a smile inducing lunch at Homes Kitchen today. It was not as grubby as I was picturing Chinese in the Flatiron to be, in fact the packed restaurant was almost upscale what with paper on cloth tablecloths. We split two lunch specials, the ma po tofu and the dry sauteed green beans. Though the green beans were a little softer than I like and there were no bits of salty pork mixed in, the taste was rather nice. The ma po tofu completely surprised us with its subtly of flavoring and just right spiciness. We have to try something else next time, but I can already see this particular lunch combo becoming a perennial fave.
