Last Friday was our bi-annual lunch with Liz and Peter, at just newly opened Lafayette, an Andrew Carmellini affair. We shared the highly recommended Eggs Lafayette and had a salad apiece. M. loved the roast chicken but thought the salad itself completely banal. The butter lettuce salad was a great combination of tastes and textures but a little too heavy handed on the dressing, enough to make a difference. The real star of the meal however, was the bread, oh delicious bread. In fact we were so taken with the bread, we skipped dessert at the table and headed over to the charming bakery adjoining the restaurant.
