In brief: Rarely has the lunch trifecta of soup dumplings, sauteed string beans and rice cakes with shredded pork and preserved cabbage ever disappointed us. Maybe once the string beans were a little soft.
Not the best day to take lunch in Chinatown, the heat makes all smells rancid but especially there with all the food markets open to the sidewalk. But we had a kitchen showroom to stop by in Soho and Shanghai Cafe is definitely worth the extra walk. We split the usual and were mightily pleased. The skin on the soup dumplings was a little thicker than usual, but the filling and soup made up for it.
