homemade brownies

Rating: A - Excellent
Taste #: 1
In brief: When Patrick sent an email to the office about some brownies made by his awesome wife, brownies that included spent grain from TJ's home brewing efforts, there was a mad rush to the kitchen to get some.

4:20pm brownie

05-23 brownie
Sometimes, actually, often, I eat afternoon dessert with a fork so I don't get my hands dirty and have to compulsive wash them three times in a row. I have been saving this exceptional second piece of brownie by Heidi and it is just as good today. Today the saltiness was more pronounced and did I detect some hints of coffee?

4:30pm brownies

05-21 brownies
Bless her heart Heidi, who sent along two pieces of a batch of brownies for my birthday last week. I had one yesterday, after my moldy morning, and I'm pretty sure the dark chocolate with bits of saltiness helped clean out my system. I saved one for today because they are pretty exceptional brownies. (Hear that Heidi? Exceptional!).

4:40pm Bake-off! Round 2

03-20 brownies
You are looking at Patrick's winning entry in round two of the bake-off, brownies. The sea salt definitely tipped him over the edge. I rarely make brownies, finding it too difficult to achieve that perfect texture combined with the right kind of chocolate/fudge flavor. It's also harder to judge brownies than you would think. A lot of milk is helpful.

3:50pm Brookster

09-04 brownie cookie
We're not usually brownie-cookie gals but I was in Red Hook yesterday and for whatever reason, while staring at the endless array of Baked goods, I somehow ended up with the Brookster for our afternoon snack.

sometime yesterday: brownies

07-17 brownie
Due to a hectic day, we didn't get around to posting our dessert yesterday, but that doesn't mean we didn't have one! Tartine being one of the vendors at last weekend's Super(Duper)Market, was one of the main draws of going to check it out. I was hoping they would have their fabulous cookies. I was admittedly disappointed when they had a very limited selection, but decided to try out their brownie. It's not a usual choice - we're not brownie people at Lunch, but my logic was this: they wouldn't trek all the way from San Francisco to sell a not so good brownie. So, the verdict? It was indeed a very elegant brownie, with rich cocoa flavors that did not overpower. Even we could from time to time crave this brownie. That being said we still want their chocolate chip cookies!

06-05 gluten-free brownie
I like this description of Sans Bakery - a small, part time bakery. Maybe if this architecture business doesn't pan out, M. and I will bake little things in the off hours. Have you noticed the increasing amount of dessert options for our gluten challenged friends? When they taste as good as this gluten-free brownie from Sans Bakery, we are all for it.

4:20pm brownie

02-15 brownie
It seems impossible that we haven't ever (ever?!) had the brownie from Oro. We're not chocolaholics but still, you would think in the 4 plus years we're been recording lunches and desserts that at least once we would have been tempted to try a brownie from our favorite local bakery. Well we did today and can now report to you, two thumbs up. It's dense like fudge, but with that lovely yielding crusty edge. If we were the type of gals to eat brownies, we would eat this one much more often.

4:44pm brownie

05-20 brownie
The brownie samples at Nolita Mart looked dark and inviting. Not to mention they were made by the same hand as the chocolate chip cookies we adore. One taste was even better, with that slightly yielding texture, verging ever so slightly on fudge. Confusedly the brownie on display looked too pale to be the same but the lovely woman behind the counter assured us that what we tasted in the little sample would be found in the larger piece. And it was.

4:00pm blondies

04-08 blondies
My heart swooned this morning at the presence of homemade blondies on the kitchen table from cpbgallery. The smallest bite yields an intense, almost caramel-like, sensation. They practically stood up and demanded a fresh pot of coffee.

4:00pm Halloween brownies

Um so. Patrick sent an email to the office this morning that said "Waiting for you on the dining room table". I run over right away and sure enough there is tray full of these awesome googly eyed, hairy brownie monsters. Love! Thank you Kristina for making them and thank you Patrick for transporting them.

Also, on an unrelated note, we hit our 1000th FB fan today and are looking for him to send us his mailing address so we can properly acknowledge this momentous moment. Funny fun.

4:00pm reeses brownie

08-25 reeses brownie
This reeses brownie was way too intense for us so we cut it up into itty bitty bites and left it on the kitchen table for everyone else to partake as well.

4:00pm brownies

04-05 brownies
Patrick is our local spokesperson for Askinosie Chocolate, because, as he says, they're great people and they make great chocolate. Which we won't really argue with when he produces such wonderful brownies as the ones he made today based on this F&W recipe using this cocoa. You know we're not huge chocolate fans but we could stand behind a company that works on outreach projects like Cocoa Honors Central US.

4:00pm brownies with strawberries

03-11 brownies w/ strawberries
A friend brought over dessert last night and I am reminded of why chocolate and strawberries works so well together. Especially fresh strawberries and caramel brownies from Fat Witch.

04-15 Brownie
From the not quite cake, not quite brownie texture, to the curious dusting of superfine sugar (not powdered), this is perhaps the strangest "brownie" we have ever had.

4:00pm brownie

11-21 brownies
Since August we've been regularly stopping by McNally Jackson hoping to snag a "hostess" chocolate cupcake from Sage, but to no avail whatsoever. Today we settle for a brownie bar, which, to be honest, was surprisingly good. Not too sweet with a touch of amaretto.

4:00pm dark chocolate brownie

06-16 dark chocolate brownie
The website says Botanical Brownies but we didn't notice too much botany going on in these dark chocolate brownies. Just your average tastiness.
